Teachers mark the lives of students, but also that of parents. There is a phrase that I heard from a teacher of my daughter who has made me think a lot every year when my daughters face a new school year: 'When parents and school go hand in hand, the path for the child is a long one more easy'. And it is that from home we adults can work on different school subjects. How old is your son? Reinforcement and review activities and exercises for 4- and 5-year-olds.

Children of 4 and 5 years old are not yet ready to read or write, but this is not a reason to encourage them to love letters. Everything we do right now will help you in future stages! Already recognize some letters (Be careful with stuck syllables, for example, tr, pr or br), so let's tell us what it says, for example, on the sign in front of the house, on the blackboard in your room, on the post-it of the fridge or on mom or dad's agenda.

For them, the printed letters (like the one that appears in this article) are more difficult to assimilate, so if you go to the library for books that are linked letters that have a lot of colorful and expressive drawing, little text and that are short (it will help them follow the story).

And of course, we cannot forget to tell them stories at any time of the day and at any time. It is the most fun and educational way to encourage reading at home! Do you know the stories in pictograms? Words are substituted for pictures to make it easier for the child to continue the story. For them it will be as if they were reading!

As for writing, you don't have to force either, but leave him 'alone' with a pencil in hand, some paintings and a sheet of paper. What will he do? If you start to write something, it will always be in uppercase and never in lowercase (it's too early yet, if only the vowels).

Parents have to try to guide him and tell him, for example, that all consonants and vowels have the same size and, if we see that the child is proactive, do a 'dictation' with him but with a single word or show him a picture and write the name of that animal or object. Another thing that we can ask of them at this age of four and five is to put their first and last names on a sheet. It sure does great!

And after the letters, the digits arrive! Children in second grade or preschool already know the numbers and may even be able to replicate the spelling of the first six. They can also relate quantity to numbers and make sums where the highest result is six. Do the test!

The best thing parents can do to work on math at home with their children is to play and do it with the games of a lifetime: Parcheesi, goose, dominoes, tic-tac-toe ... Shall we play a game today?

And, as explained in the report 'Games for the stage of early childhood education', prepared by the Spanish Federation of CC. OO de AndalucĂa, 'play is a spontaneous means of expression and learning in which all the senses interact. By manipulating, by experimenting, by investigating and creating new situations. '

Many adults are terrified of speaking in public for not knowing how to find the exact word, for fear of getting stuck, for making a fool of ourselves, for fear that they will ask us something and not know how to answer it ... If they had taught us to stand in front of more people and throw a speech ...! Now you are in time to give your children what you did not have.

The next time you tell him a story, after reading it, try to establish a small discussion or debate. Ask questions like 'who or who were the protagonists?', 'What happened?', 'Where?' ... In turn, you can encourage him to tell you (if it can be in order, great!) history heard: beginning, middle and end.

A third proposal that we throw at you is to maximize your creativity To do this, invent a side story together or create a second part of the story together. It can be extraordinary!

English is part of our daily lives: we listen to songs on the radio in the language of Shakespeare, we use many Anglicism in our everyday language, our network of friends is more international ... All this makes learning this second language is a priority in many homes.

There are a lot of exercises that will allow you to review English with your child at home: read stories to him in English, teach him simple vocabulary (apple-apple, orange-orange, tall-tall, short-short ...), watch series for his age in this language, download apps with games ... Do you speak english?

Autonomy, attention or knowledge of the physical and social environment are not within the subjects of the school year, but they are equally important, hence parents should work on them at home with their children to develop and strengthen them.

- Attention
How difficult it can be for teachers and parents to keep children focused and paying attention to what we say to them! But like everything, this skill is also learned, you just have to train it! Puzzles can be our great allies to work attention (no more than 20 pieces), but also games to look for differences or similarities.

- Autonomy
With four and five years children have to start doing things for themselves, what would those tasks be? Dressing and undressing without help, placing and being responsible for their toys, helping to clear and set the table, and wash their hands or comb their hair (in matters of personal hygiene, parents will have to supervise more thoroughly).

- Knowledge of the environment
When you go for a walk, tell him a lot of curiosities about your neighborhood! It will be a way of awakening your curiosity and your desire to learn. And get ready because they are in the era of whys. They will want an answer for everything!

But do you know what most children learn from? Being with the family, playing with the family, laughing as a family and sharing good times with their parents, siblings, cousins, uncles and grandparents.
